“Myself and my wife go to see Katie most helpful explained everything in simple terms would highly recommend to anyone”
At True Tone Hearing Care, we’re proud to support a truly inspiring initiative that’s changing lives — one hearing aid at a time. As part of our mission to connect people globally through better hearing, we’re working to ensure that life-changing technology reaches those who need it most, no matter where they live.
In partnership with the Good Samaritan Hospital, Rotary Portland Maine, Rotary International and Rotary Action Group for Peace, True Tone Hearing Care is helping to bring the gift of hearing to hundreds of people living in the poverty-stricken areas of La Romana in the Dominican Republic. Through this partnership, we’re collecting unwanted, working hearing aids from patients and practices across our network to give them a second life in communities where hearing care is almost impossible to access.
For over 20 years, audiologists and Rotarians Drs Roger and Liz Fagan have made 26 trips to the Dominican Republic, delivering more than 4,500 hearing aids. Their mission focuses on helping children and sugar cane workers – particularly in the Batayes – who are disproportionately affected by hearing loss, often due to untreated fevers in childhood. With little to no access to education or communication, many of these children have been wrongly labelled as ‘slow learners’ – until they receive the hearing aids that completely transform their lives.
By training local healthcare workers to perform hearing tests and send audiograms to Drs Fagan in the United States, the programme ensures every aid is programmed accurately before being delivered and fitted in person.
Thanks to the continued generosity of our patients and local communities, we’ve collected hundreds of hearing aids – each one helping to restore the gift of hearing to someone in need.
We’ve also donated funds to provide a full year’s supply of rechargeable units and solar chargers, making it possible to power hearing aids even in remote villages where electricity isn’t always available.
This work is only possible because of the kindness and support we receive – and there’s still more we can do together.
We’re now aiming to collect at least 300 working hearing aids for our next mission trip — and every donation makes a real difference.

“Great service from Shane. Very helpful. I would definitely recommend a visit to him if you have any hearing problems.”
“I recently had a tricky hearing problem. Nicole quickly identified the problem and how to fix it. She was friendly and professional. A great experience and she went well over and above the call of duty.”
“Nicole is a genius. After she ‘hoovered’ my ears for wax yesterday, I came home and listened to my astonishing hi-fi, and it was like having an upgrade. And a lot cheaper than getting a new hi-fi!!”
“Had the pleasure of meeting Ciara today. I have had my hearing tested every year for the last 25 years but today was on another level, beyond professional. This was a thorough and detailed examination, with every step of the process explained perfectly. Together with this, Ciara is a lovely, personable expert – I did not feel rushed or uncomfortable. Thankyou Ciara, you are supremely recommended for your excellent service today.“
“Was very impressed by Ciara, her knowledge, wisdom and understanding of hearing issues was first class, put me through a full range of tests, and explained everything with thoughtfulness and kindness. Highly recommended,”
“A big thank you to Katie for testing and supplying hearing aids for me. Best thing I’ve ever done! It was a great service, great after-care, and nothing was too much trouble.”
“I am delighted to leave a review for Katie, Optometrist at BH McKeague, Ballymena. I was very unsure about choosing my hearing aids and about how these would perform better than my NHS ones. I cannot believe how good my Starkey AI bte hearing aids are. Katie had such patience, gave me very explicit instructions and I was completely confident I had chosen the right ones. Having no batteries was a big plus. I know if I have any issues Katie has assured me to get in touch at any time.“
“Had an appointment with brogans ear testing today. Ciara was fantastic ,great sense of humour and put me at ease explaining all procedures. Great facility and information to assist my decisions. I’ll be back for regular check ups! Thanks Ciara“
“Just had a wonderful customer service experience with your Audiologist, Ciara, in your Newry, Co Down clinic. A relatable, understanding and very professional audiologist. I will be recommending Ciara and her service far and wide. Thank you so much for a very positive experience.”
